This was a violation of gun safety laws. Do not point your gun at anything you do not wish to destroy.
Am I being stupid here or maybe I am making the point that gun safety laws are for the most part not designed for those 15 seconds that your life is on the line. They are for all the other times you are handling your gun at home, on the range etc. In a deadly force encounter, you may, like it or not, violate every single gun safety rule in your absolute focus on the goal... staying alive.
