Shooting someone doesn't mean stopping them

And forget handguns not stopping people, here they are talking about the M1 Carbine, more powerful than a .357 Magnum.

So yeah, you have a gun and you can shoot someone charging you with a sword(some of you). It still doesn't always stop them.
